August 11, 2012:
The Taksim Square was a walking distance from our hotel. On our way back from the boat ride we arrived at the Taksim square. It is the main hub of all the activities in this part of Istanbul. The tourists are delighted to see shops, protestors, and the street performers here.

Taksim Square (from Wikipedia) is situated in the European part of Istanbul, Turkey. It is a major shopping, tourist and leisure district famed for its restaurants, shops and hotels. It is considered the heart of modern Istanbul, with the central station of the Istanbul Metro network. Taksim Square is also the location of the Monument of the Republic which was crafted by the famous Italian sculptor Pietro Canonica and inaugurated in 1928. The monument commemorates the formation of the Republic of Turkey in 1923, following the Turkish War of Independence.
